This last year has brought about many transitions for Weeks Family Farms. We joined Family Farms Group in 2016 and really ramped up our farm with regards to SOP’s (Standard Operating Prodedures) in both our office and our production. We brought on our first Operations Supervisor, hired a production employee and launched a branding strategy, which this website is a part of, along with putting an additional 600 acres into organic transition, all in the last 12 months.
But, the most significant and meaningful transition is farming without “Mike”, Ryan’s Dad who passed away in April after a battle with cancer and heart disease. We still wait for him to walk around the corner and give us a “hey” in his growly voice. Mike was our go for parts guy, (Go-fer) in retirement. It didn’t matter if it was a 100 mile round trip or 10, he was on it. He also drove truck and shuffled us from field to field almost every day. We affectionately called him “Tiger” for his tendency to “growl” when things were not going as he thought they should. What we wouldn’t give to hear the growling again! We have featured a picture of Mike on our History page as he is a lot of that history, having farmed with his Grandfather Jack, Father Gaylon, and Son Ryan. This harvest will be a major transition as we farm without Dad!
